The famous Ifa priest and Babalawo who is also the Araba of Osogbo, Chief Yemi Elebuibon, has described the carting away of the staff of office of the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, by some thugs during the EndSARS protest in Lagos as a sacrilegious and shameful act.
Elebuibon is a traditional icon in Nigeria, who is known far and wide especially for taking native culture and traditions to diverse countries in the world.
The multi-talented Araba Fayemi Elebuibon, is a Babalawo, Ifa priest, poet, writer and an Ewi exponent who has connections all over the world.
He revealed that all the palaces in Yorubaland are sacred places and even Obas themselves are sacred beings. A traditional ruler who undergoes the necessary traditional rites and rituals before ascending to the throne of his forbearers is not an ordinary person.
A monarch who did not do the necessary traditional rites before becoming the king is the type who can be attacked anyhow by the people. He added that the people who carted away the staff of office (Opa Ase) of the Oba of Lagos have cursed themselves.
The renowned Babalawo concluded that if the subjects want to remove an Oba, they can tell him to open the spiritual calabash rather than committing sacrilege. What happened at the palace of the Oba of Lagos is a slap on Yoruba culture.
