As we all know china claim to be one of the most powerful nations in the world, before this recent pandemic, whenever we here china we think of a nation with a spectacular building and industries which is what media want us to see.

Kind of pictures you’re exposed to in the media are cities with skyscrapers and beautiful gardens like the one below.


However, in this article, we’re taking a cursory look at the slums in the Asian country that will make you believe that agenda-setting of the media and good public relations is what a country needs to drive tourism and foreign investment.

The Western media has done a great disservice to Africa as a continent and Nigeria as a country due to the bad reportage and review of the black continent to the global audience. They have painted the continent as a “shithole”. If only we could get the same good representation of our great and beautiful cities.

This article is not to spoil the image of China but to prove a point that we Nigerians and Africans should start appreciating our heritage and country if we want it to be great.
We have been brainwashed by the Western media that the grass is greener on the other side and this pushes many Africans to forsake their motherland to the supposed developed countries only to end up living in this kind of slum areas when they can’t afford the expensive cities there.

What Nigeria and Africa need is good leadership with good public relations and see how the fortune of the continent turn for good. We should start telling our own good stories for the world to hear. Bad reportage results to bad publicity and this affects the economy adverse because foreign tourists and investors would be scared to come to visit or invest in a continent that has been reported to look like a shithole whereby there are shitholes in every country. Even in America.
